User authentication

Note: These instructions pertain to Step 5 of the overall identity provider process.

If you have configured an identity provider in your environment, you can manage authentication through the Users page.

There are three authentication types:

  • IdP authentication: IdP authentication means the user has been configured to use the IdP configured for their environment with every sign in. This user cannot sign in using a specific Prysm authentication.
  • Prysm Authentication (Auto-convert to IdP): Prysm authentication (Auto-convert to IdP) means that the user will be automatically converted to IdP authentication the next time they sign in to Prysm. Prysm authentication is prevented if Enforce SSO is ON in the identity provider configuration (see Identity provider management.)
  • Prysm Authentication: Prysm authentication means that the user signs in to Prysm using a username and password that is specific to Prysm.
Customers that use IdP authentication might also use Prysm Authentication for systems configured to Auto-Login. In this scenario, only users configured for Prysm Authentication are able to Auto-Login. This scenario is also beneficial during a customer's phased transition to IdP authentication.
